about

Hasaposerviko D is one of the most known traditional Greek instrumentals. The word 'hasaposerviko' (χασαποσέρβικο) is the name of a dance, the letter D means the root note.

The rhythm pattern of this instrumental is easy: 4/4 time-signature containing a root (bass) note - chord - 5th bass - chord

The melody uses three scales:
- starts in D Hijaz scale (A. & B. parts)
- jumps to G-major natural scale (C. part)
- back to D Hijaz (D. - G. parts)
- finishes with C Mixolydian (H. part).

If you are new to Hijaz scale, its structure is: 1 2b 3 4 5 6b 7b 9.
In the key of D it contains: D Eb F# G A Bb C D

G-major natural: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 | G A B C D E F# G
C Mixolydian: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7b 8 | C D E F G A Bb C

The included Study Leads Sheet contains alternative key-signature for the D Hijaz and C Mixolydian scales.
For D Hijaz, the accidentals are: Eb, F# and Bb
For C Mixolydian: Bb
Also, every note is numbered according to its place in the scale currently used, to allow for study of the melody and intervals used.

The chord structure in a typical Hijaz scale is:
1 / D = Root
5 / Gm = Sub-dominant
7 / Cm = Dominant
2 / Eb = Relative Dominant
